âI donât like Lindsey.â Angie was lining a baking sheet with graham crackers, preparing frozen sâmores for dessert.
âDo you mean you donât like her or you donât like her?â Courtney asked.
Mr. Finch looked across the kitchen from the stove where he was making fudge. âI believe Miss Courtney is asking if your senses are picking up on something about the woman.â
âI feel like sheâs holding back information. I feel like she knows something and is hiding it from us.â Angie whisked together vanilla pudding and milk. âMy senses are telling me she canât be trusted.â
âOkay. Interesting ⦠because I had the same sensations.â Courtney was sitting at the table going through the case files again.
âThe woman gives something off.â Angie was trying to find the right words to express herself. âIt makes me want to withdraw from her.â
Euclid hissed from the top of the fridge.
âBut is all of this your powers at work or is it something a normal person would pick up on?â Ellie chopped vegetables for the chili she was making.
Courtney replied, âItâs our paranormal Spidey sense at work.â
âI donât feel anything unusual from her.â Ellie added some diced onions to the slow cooker.
âThatâs because youâre blocking incoming sensations. You donât want to feel them.â
Jenna came into the room with a baby on each hip.
âWhat do you think of Lindsey?â Courtney questioned.
âI donât like her,â Jenna said as Finch helped her place the kids in the high chairs. âMy inner alarms go off when sheâs around warning me away from her.â
âWe all feel the same way,â Angie reported. âDoes it mean Lindsey is involved in Momâs death?â
âI canât figure that out yet.â Jenna poured a cup of tea. âThereâs something she doesnât want to tell us. Maybe she wants us to think she and Mom were good friends for some reason when we know that isnât the case. Momâs friend, Lara, told us Mom didnât care for Lindsey.â
âMaybe Lindsey harbored resentment towards Mom and didnât like her at all and was secretly glad when she died,â Courtney guessed.
Angie tilted her head considering what her sisters had said. âYou might have something there. Those are good ideas. Lindsey pretends she and Mom were friendly, when in reality, Lindsey might not have liked her. That could be what Iâm sensing from her, dishonesty in what she says about Mom. Thereâs probably nothing sinister about her.â
âLara Deering keeps popping into my head.â Courtney got up to make a cup of coffee. âIt still seems to me that she took off from Boston pretty fast. Could she have had something to do with what happened to Mom? She found us here at this Beacon Hill house claiming she heard people talking about us at the conference. Is that a stretch? Who would be talking about us at the conference?â
âMaybe Lindsey was at the conference,â Jenna suggested. âShe knew we were in town.â
âBut she didnât know where we were staying,â Courtney protested. âNobody knew.â
âWell, somebody knew because Lara found us here.â Ellie seasoned the chili.
